Discovery Point: Discovery the Possibilities
90% of the brain develops before the age of five; for the first three years, rapid brain development occurs when billions of connections between individual neurons are established. Support for this development must be available beginning at birth. When infants and young children’s brain development is fully supported, they are more likely to reach critical milestones which lead to individual success. When a child has positive and nurturing relationships with parents and other adults, an environment conducive to exploration and interactions, as well as learning opportunities through cognitive and physical activities, the child is set up for individual and community success.
Learning Through Play
The daily activities at Discovery Point include many opportunities for cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. Literature-based units include age-appropriate activities in math, language development, and science. Food preparation amongst preschoolers promotes math, science, and social skills. Songs and activities with movement, such as yoga, are included to promote physical development. Process-based art projects encourage creativity and individual perspectives. Dramatic play and group work develop a child’s social and emotional growth.
